Journal History

The brief history of the Journal of Technology and Data Science (JTDS) from its founding to the present:

  • 2022 — Founding & Inaugural Issue · ISSN registration and publication of Volume 1 Issue 1 (July 2022) as the inaugural JTDS issue, featuring early themes in information systems and applied technology.
  • 2024 — Editorial Reorganization & Regular Publication · Restructuring of the editorial team and migration of the OJS platform to new hosting. Volume 2 Issue 1 (June 2024) and Volume 2 Issue 2 (December 2024) were published, restoring a consistent two-issues-per-year cadence.
  • 2025 — Editorial Consolidation · Volume 3 Issue 1 (June 2025) and Volume 3 Issue 2 (December 2025) strengthened the publication rhythm with stricter reviewer curation and a more mature editorial process.
  • 2026 — Modernization & Continuous Publishing · Volume 4 Issue 1 (Edition I 2026) marked the first application of the continuous publishing model: articles are published online as soon as they clear production, then assigned to Edition I (January–June) or Edition II (July–December) according to publication period. This year also marked the website redesign, Cloudflare integration, performance improvements, and indexing efforts in major scholarly databases (DOAJ, Garuda, Dimensions, BASE, WorldCat).
Note: JTDS has been officially registered since 2022 (ISSN 2962-3693). Due to system migration and hosting transition in 2024, some technical metadata of early archives was overwritten with the migration date. The bibliographic content and metadata of articles remain intact; the displayed publication dates reflect the original publication dates based on archival documentation (PDF creation date of early archives).

Journal Strengths

Why Publish in JTDS

Six principal reasons JTDS is the right choice to publish your research in technology and data science:

Rigorous Peer Review

Double-blind peer review by expert reviewers from various institutions.

Open Access

Articles freely available worldwide under Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.

Fast Publication

First editorial decision typically within 4–6 weeks of submission.

Global Visibility

Indexed in leading scholarly databases for maximum citation impact.

Author-Friendly

No submission charge; transparent and constructive review process.

Permanent DOI

Every article receives a Digital Object Identifier for permanent citation.

Editorial Workflow

Peer Review Process

Every manuscript submitted to JTDS proceeds through the following double-blind peer review stages to ensure scholarly quality and integrity:

  1. Initial Editorial Screening — assessment of scope alignment, originality, and compliance with author guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet basic criteria are returned to the author at this stage.
  2. Double-Blind Peer Review — evaluation by at least two independent expert reviewers. Author and reviewer identities are mutually anonymized to ensure objectivity.
  3. Editorial Decision — based on reviewer recommendations, the editor decides: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject.
  4. Final Production — copyediting, typesetting, and DOI assignment are performed after acceptance.
Estimate: First editorial decision is typically delivered within 4–6 weeks of submission.
Open Access

Open Access Policy

JTDS is a fully open-access journal. All published articles are available immediately and permanently to read, download, and redistribute without subscription, registration, or payment barriers — in line with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).

Articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license, which permits non-commercial reuse with appropriate attribution and share-alike requirements on derivative works. JTDS does not charge any article submission charge or article processing charge.

Publication Schedule

Publication Frequency

JTDS publishes two issues per year: Edition I (June) and Edition II (December). Since Volume 4 (2026), articles are published continuously — online as soon as they clear production — and assigned to the issue corresponding to the publication period (Edition I for January–June, Edition II for July–December). See the Publication Model section for full details.

Publication Model

Continuous Publishing Model

Since Volume 4 Issue 1 (Edition I 2026), JTDS has adopted the continuous publishing model: every article that passes peer review and production is published online as soon as it is ready, then administratively assigned to the issue of the current period. This approach aligns with standard practice at journals indexed in major scholarly databases (Crossref, DOAJ, Scopus).

  1. Immediate online publication — articles are published within 7–14 days of the final editorial decision; the date of publication reflects the actual online publication date, which also becomes the DOI registration date at Crossref.
  2. Assignment to issue — articles published between January–June are assigned to Edition I; those published between July–December are assigned to Edition II.
  3. Continuous pagination — page numbers continue across Editions within the same volume; they do not reset per issue.

Primary benefits of this model for authors and readers: faster indexation by Google Scholar and DOAJ harvesters, immediate visibility for the academic community, and publication-date certainty for authors' academic needs (graduation, promotion, accreditation).

Volume 1–3 (2022–2025): published under the batch issue model (compiled at the end of each June/December period). Articles from earlier periods retain their original bibliographic metadata to preserve historical citation consistency.
COPE Standard

Publication Ethics

JTDS follows the principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity, including originality, proper attribution, disclosure of conflicts of interest, and ethical conduct of research. The journal uses plagiarism detection tools to screen all incoming manuscripts.

Visibility

Indexing and Abstracting

JTDS is indexed and currently pursuing inclusion in major scholarly databases, including but not limited to: Google Scholar, Crossref, Garuda, DOAJ, BASE, WorldCat, Dimensions, Neliti, and other leading indexing services.

Archive Preservation

Archiving and Long-term Preservation

JTDS implements a layered preservation mechanism to ensure long-term readability of articles:

  • Permanent DOI via Crossref — every article is registered with a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) at Crossref, guaranteeing a permanent resolvable link even if the site URL structure changes.
  • Daily Automatic Backup — the database and article files are automatically backed up daily on publisher infrastructure as data-loss mitigation.
  • LOCKSS Publisher Manifest — the publication manifest is available at /gateway/lockss to facilitate harvesting by libraries running the LOCKSS daemon.
  • PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) — the plugin is installed and configured on OJS; onboarding to the PKP PN network is in progress.
  • Self-archiving by Author — authors are encouraged to deposit the postprint version to their institutional repository for additional redundancy.
Status: Claims of active distributed preservation will be updated on this page after harvesting confirmation from the relevant networks. Current status reflects the infrastructure implementation stage, not a third-party verification claim.
Corrections & Retractions

Errata, Corrections, and Retractions

JTDS follows the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines for handling errors and integrity issues in published articles. Three types of correction actions apply:

  1. Errata — corrections to editorial errors that do not affect article substance (e.g., typographical errors, formatting, or metadata). The original article remains intact; the erratum is published separately with its own DOI and linked to the original article.
  2. Corrigendum — corrections to substantive errors made by the author (e.g., data, figures, or minor conclusions) that do not invalidate the overall main conclusions. The original article is marked "corrigendum" and the corrigendum is published with bidirectional links to the original article.
  3. Retraction — withdrawal of an article due to serious issues such as plagiarism, data fabrication/falsification, duplicate publication, or major ethical violations. The article remains accessible but is clearly marked "RETRACTED" with a retraction statement explaining the reason; the article's DOI is not removed to preserve the scholarly record.
Contact: Correction requests or reports of suspected ethical violations may be sent to editorial@mail.onlinelibrary.id with relevant evidence and references. The editorial team will follow up according to the COPE Flowchart.
